abstract = "The method of production and reproduction of urban space in Brazil
has resulted in serious externalities to national forest
resources. The population with the lowest purchasing power were
impelled, in a dispersed way along the territory, to occupy
environmentally sensitive areas, resulting in an expressive
fragmentation of existing vegetation remnants. The Atlantic
Forest, in particular, suffered greatly from this process. At the
beginning of the 21st century, it was estimated that only 22% of
its original area was covered by native vegetation. As a relief,
some studies show that the recovery of this vegetation to the
previous levels is possible, in the long run, evaluating the
development of the vegetation in places where previously the
suppression of these forest fragments occurred. Given these facts,
it is easy to understand the importance of urban planning for
environmental conservation. In the scope of the research Carta

was updated. The analysis of land cover, on different dates,
allowed a mapping of transformation trends in the environment,
showing both pressure for its occupation and improvement of
environmental conditions. The present work presents a mapping
experience with the intention to point out the rate of change of
these areas in a synthetic way, making possible the use of the
information in several areas of knowledge.",
